The External Environment Essay Example
The External Environment Paper Complete an analysis of the traditional department store industry and of Macys as of 2005. Which factors in the external environment could (positively or negatively) affect the success of Macys new strategy? I think the following external nevi ornament factors could affect the success of Macys new strategy. The general economic environment as the country was entering a significant recession affected the company negatively. Another negative effect is the industry life cycle model in which the traditional department store industry was in the mature phase or even decline phase. Also, the intense intention between the existing companies and the rise of online shopping is also a negative. Here are some of the internal factors I believe that could affect the success of the companys strategy. Macys is recognized as a national brand with national advertising. They also have a sound customer base with new stores in prime location. The management teams are skilled and experienced. In 2005, Macys consolidation and repositioning strategy strengthened the consolidation and the image as Americas department store. The begin to remodel the stores in hopes to promote a pleasant hopping experience, affordable luxury, and changing the brand to focus on attracting customers interested in fashion. Some of the weaknesses I see are the fact that the quality of merchandise and service has deteriorated the attempt to standardize the merchandise and pricing across all the stores. Porter argues that the goal of strategy, and a key to achieving a sustainable competitive advantage, is finding a unique and valuable position. However, he decision to consolidation is not unique. As far as am concerned, Macys cannot success with the strategy outlines in the case. Although Macys has launched a bold strategy, the external environment especially the industry life cycle is in decline and competition is growing rapidly. Believe that Macys should count more on the technology development, such as E-commerce; to open an online shop is a good try for Macys. What elements in the external environment could affect Dipping Dots strategy in relationship to their growth? Political/Legal, Economic and Global, Coloratura, Demographic, and Technological factors should be considered Dipping Dots, Ice Cream of the Future, has been around for nearly 25 years. The company has had some major obstacles to overcome throughout the years. When Dipping Dots first launched, it truly stood behind its name, Ice Cream of the Future. The founder of Dipping Dots came up with a process known as flash freeze liquid cream. He was able to reinvent a product that people of all ages had either heard of or tried. The strategies used were, developing futuristic ice cream, targeting people ages 8 to 1 8, continuing to grow the company by use of franchises and selling the product through amusement parks, fairs, malls and the use of vending machines. He used celebrities to promote product, tried a joint venture with McDonalds, and introduced healthier options to be able to target selling product in schools. The threat of new entrants is high due to loss of patent; competition along with disenfranchised former employees can copy the product. Power of suppliers is high due to special equipment needed to store product in addition to storing with dry ice. International shipping was also difficult due to equipment needed to store and ship product. The buyer power is low due to actions where Dipping Dots are sold are places in where consumers typically spend more money. Therefore the 5 oz. Cup for $5. 00 is not an over-priced product. Consumers realize in these environments they are going to pay more for a product than in a grocery store. The threat of substitutes is high because of the many different types of frozen desserts-various types of ice cream, sherbet, sorbet, ice cream sandwiches/bars, frozen custard and Goleta. Consumers can also purchase different frozen desserts in grocery stores, where Dipping Dots are not available. There are already substitutes to the company. The intensity of rivalry is high due to imitation of Dipping Dots, large international companies, family-owned businesses and full-line dairies. When Dipping Dots first launched their target demographic was people ranging from 8 years of age to 18 years. As the industry changes Dipping Dots strategy was to target not only kids, but older generations. Coloratura- The founder took a nationally known product and reinvented ice cream as flash freeze ice cream beads. The company developed different products to reach a larger and more diverse audience. They developed coffee drinks, low-fat options and healthier products. The company utilized celebrities and popular magazines to promote product and tried a joint venture with McDonalds that turned out to be not successful. Legal-The loss of patent really put the companys future in jeopardy. Companies and even disenfranchised former dealers were able to sell similar products and develop imitations. Technological-Due to the unique storage requirements for product it was more challenging to ship product internationally. Economic-Increased franchise fees and royalties, rising operating costs. Global-More efficient shipping options and expands international market. Dipping Dots became a very successful company by the use of innovation. The founder was able to develop a product that was unlike any other in the frozen dessert industry. Due to loss of patent, copies and imitations have been made over the years. The future Of Dipping Dots, I believe lies in the introduction of take home line of Ice cream and the ability to expand franchisees internationally. Dipping Dots is known for its innovative products and they must continue to stay ahead of the competition by developing additional products that reach a more diverse customer base.

Free Essays on First Year in College
My First College Year Everyday in my life since I started college has been the same. It seems like I do the same thing everyday without remembering that I did that the day before or just yesterday. It's like a somewhat automatic repeat of my day and I donââ¬â¢t even realize it. I usually always wake up at around 8:00am every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to go to school. Only on those three days I wake up early. On Tuesday and Thursday I wake up just a little bite later, around 11am or 12pm. I usually study all day long when I donââ¬â¢t go to school on those two days. There has never been weekdays were I haven't followed this incidental procedure, well maybe only on long weekends and holidays. My Saturdays and Sundays are also usually similar to any other regular weekend. I always get loads of homework on Fridays, so both days of my free weekend is gone by studying. I never studied on the weekends when I was in high school. Know that I am in college, I have become more mature, and focused then ever, mentally. College has totally changed my sleeping habits also. I usually sleep at either 2 or 3 am everyday regardless of having school the next day or not. I think the reason why I will not go to sleep is because know I am more worried about getting my studying done ahead of time, rather then waiting to the last minute. I am glad that college has made me become more positive about studying. This procedure has really made me a better and a positive person, because I have actually opened myself up to ask more questions, and paying more attention during classes. My thoughts and feeling are opening up more often. The people who already had there first year in college might actually understand my viewpoint. First year in college is the best year, in which youââ¬â¢ve become mature, focused, metally alert, and also trying to find out what career opportunities are available.... NetBeans is Javas Popular Software Development Platform
NetBeans is Java's Popular Software Development Platform NetBeans is a popular software development platform, mostly for Java, that provides wizards and templates to help developers build applications quickly and easily. It includes modular components across a wide range of tools and features an IDE (integrated development environment) that allows developers to create applications using a GUI. While NetBeansà is primarily a tool for Java developers, it also supports PHP, C and C and HTML5. NetBeans History NetBeans origins stem from a university project at the Charles University of Prague in the Czech Republic in 1996. Charmingly called Zelfià IDE for Java (a takeoff on the programming language Delphi), NetBeansà was the first Java IDE ever. The students were enthused about it and worked to turn it into a commercial product. It In the late 90s, it was acquired by Sun Microsystems whichà integrated it into its set of Java tools and then turned it over to open source. By June 2000, the original netbeansà site was launched. Oracle purchased Sun in 2010 and thus also acquired NetBeans, which continues as an open source project sponsored by Oracle. It now resides atà ââ¬â¹www.netbeans.org. What Can Netbeans Do? The philosophy behind NetBeans is to provide an extensibleIDE that provides all the tools necessary to develop desktop, enterprise, web and mobile applications. The ability to install plug-ins allows developers to tailor the IDE to their individual development tastes. In addition to the IDE, NetBeans includes the NetBeans Platform, a framework for building applications with Swing and JavaFX, the Java GUI toolkits. This means that NetBeans provides pluggable menu and toolbar items, helps manage windows and perform other tasks when developing a GUI. Various bundles can be downloaded, depending on the primary programming language you use (e.g,à Java SE, Java SE and JavaFX,à Java EE). Although it doesnt really matter, as you can pick and choose which languages to program with through the plug-in manager. Primary Features Swing GUI Builder:à Drag and drop Swing components to build an applications GUI.JavaFX UI toolkit: Work with JavaFX in the same way as Swing, easily incorporating its components.Developer Collaboration:à Work with other developers on using NetBeans through the Netbeans Community which includes forums, tutorials, training materialsà and the NetBeans Dream Team, a group of committed enthusiasts.Netbeans Platform:à The modular NetBeans Platform provides APIs to help make desktop applications easier by handling some of the more common tasks involved in developing Swing applications. Netbeans Releases and Requirements NetBeans is cross-platform, meaning that it runs on any platform that supports the Java Virtual Machine including Windows, Mac OS X, Linus, and Solaris.à Although open source - meaning that it is run by the communityà - à NetBeans adheres to a regular, rigorous release schedule. The most recent release was 8.2 in October 2016. NetBeans runs on the Java SE Development Kit (JDK) which includes theà Java Runtime Environment as well as a set of tools for testing and debugging Java applications. The version of the JDK required depends on the NetBeans version you are using. à All these tools are free.

Macbeth Act 3 - Coursework Example Explain Macbeth does see Fleance as a threat to his throne as, according to witchesââ¬â¢ prophecies, Banquoââ¬â¢s sons will rule the country. It is a pathetic sight ââ¬â a queen, having no joy in life, because the way she got what she wanted was so wrong. She lives in fear that their guilt will be discovered. à Nought's had, all's spent, /à Where our desire is got without content; /'Tis safer to be that which we destroy / Than by destruction dwell in doubtful joy. (3.2.6-9) Her life is empty and she even envies the king Duncan - she says it is ââ¬Å"saferâ⬠to be in his place. Dining experience in a New York Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Dining experience in a New York - Essay Example The examination of Ninja New York is one which goes a step further with the services provided, not only for the taste and expectations in quality. This is furthered with creating a story behind the operations and management while displaying alternatives within the industry for those that are interested in the food and beverages. Examining how this particular operation has worked and the results which have occurred provide opportunities with those who are providing services in restaurants while examining challenges that this also creates. Analysis of Ninja New York The basis of Ninja New York immediately moves outside of the competition by creating a myth behind the food and beverages provided. The basis of this is to show a myth that is related to the ninjas in ancient civilization practicing until they found a secret and mythical village where they began to create magical and secret recipes. This main story line is able to build the main identity of the food and the approaches which are taken in the restaurant toward the food. The result is that the myth immediately creates a sense of curiosity and mystery toward the products provided while developing a brand image that stands ahead of other competitors that are also offering Eastern foods. The myth that is a part of this follows the understanding that the Ninja restaurant was already a part of Japan then was brought to New York. The result is the ability to create an atmosphere with the Japanese style of food. The restaurant does this by dividing the sections with the Ninja Village and the Rock Burn dining. This follows with the myth of the ninja, specifically with not making a mistake with the food otherwise one goes into the ninja chamber. These areas are designed specifically with the myth intact and to create an understanding of ancient Japan and how this relates to the food and beverages which are served. By doing this, there is an immediate expectation toward the quality of the food and the mystery whic h the restaurant has created behind this. The overall atmosphere which is created with Ninja New York follows with the expectations by the operations management to continue to create the atmosphere with the food and beverages as well as the presentation which one has. The training includes acting and moving like a ninja while serving others the food. There is also a training to study the menu ingredients, specifically because of the relationship to Japan that is created. The ninja food that is a part of the restaurant is based on having high quality food brought from Japan and which holds the same mystery and myth of the ninja concepts. The concepts include desserts, such as Ninja Art Desserts, including bonsai plants. The food and beverage continues with the right presentation and with being interactive, allowing the customers to move into the theme of the ninja arts through the food they are eating. For example, a dish made with crab and grapefruit has a sword in the middle. When this is pulled out, dry ice is released to make smoke. The ideas come from proposing creative ideas that move into the theme of the ninja, specifically which moves into the menu through a contest. The result is that the servers and chefs are able to become a part of the restaurant with the development of the food and

Mark Twain of Huck Finn - Satire :: essays research papers
Mark Twain, a famous American writer-satirist wrote many books highly acclaimed throughout the world. For his masterpiece, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the literary establishment recognized him as one of the greatest writers America would ever produce. This novel is about a teenage boy by the name of Huck Finn whose father is an alcoholic. Because of his violence, Huck runs away and finds a runaway slave Jim. Instead of turning Jim in, Huck goes against society and makes a decision to help Jim break free from slavery. As they travel together, Huck learns more and more about Jim and starts to understand that the common stereotype of black people is wrong. Huck sees there is no difference between Jim and any white man he knows except for skin color. Risking his life and overcoming many difficulties on the way, Huck succeeds in freeing Jim. Focusing on racism, alcoholism and mob mentality, Mark Twain uses his enthusiastic style of writing and satirizes the three traits throughou t the novel. Many words the book contains are full of vivid disgust towards black slaves. Every single line talks about how white people despise and refuse to accept the black race. Answering Aunt Sally's question about whether or not anyone is hurt Huck answers, "no mum, just killed a nigger."(Twain 213) This is the one and only acceptable way to talk about black people in the "white" society. In addition to this, not only is the black people treated differently from the white, they are also considered to be one's property. "He is the only property I have," (Twain 122) Huck is perforce to say in order to save Jim. This is the only way to get through without the essence of suspicions. Though Huck shows racism in public as society teaches him, deep inside he understands that Jim is a great person. Through the eyes of Huck Finn, Mark Twain shows that there is more to people then looks and race, showing the importance of beliefs and character. Alcoholism is another human weakness. Twain satirizes in his novel, constantly accentuating the drunk and violent father of Huck in a very negative manner. "I was just about to go and vote myself if I warn't too drunk to get there,"(Twain 27) said Pap with a racist remark, implying the fact that he will never vote anyway just because the government let one very intelligent black professor vote.

Comparison of the Italian Prison System to Ours Essay
university of phoenix| A World Apart| A Comparison of the Italian Prison System to Ours| | Matthew Kramer| 4/23/2011| | The Italian correctional system although much older than the American system are very comparable to each other. Both have come from fledgling institutions in the past that have both evolved because of officials in higher positions as well as concerned citizens that have voiced their opinions on how inmates are treated and how they are housed during their sentences. They have both experimented with the Pennsylvania and Auburn style types of correctional institutions. While America has primarily gone with just one of the models Italian prisons have taken a mix of both throughout their country. Their types of institutions are also pretty much the same as we have here with problems with overcrowding and underfunding. Italy has designated three separate penal housing authorities that are divided into three preventative detention institutions these are as follows: The preventive detention centers, the institutions for the execution of sentences and the institution of security measures. However the building of these institutions has been a problem due to funding and has also placed many inmates in cells that are built for one inmate. America also has the same problem with overcrowding and underfunding causing our country to place more inmates in spaces that were not designed for that many people. We will not place more than two inmates to a cell as where in Italy you may see more than two in a cell for a period of time because there is nowhere else to put them. The institutions for the execution of sentencing are divided into sub groups of arrest centers and detention centers. The institutions of security measures are also broken up into prison farms, work homes, treatment and custody centres and judicial psychiatric hospitals. American correctional institutions also have something similar to this although most of these are accompanied under the same umbrella. Inmates that enter the American system initially go to prison and from there unless sentenced differently they will be placed in a half way house or probation and parole house. Mental health inmates tend to stay at the prison while some will be moved to state mental hospitals for further treatment. The population of the two different correctional systems is very different here in America our inmate population is at almost 2. 5 million as of a survey done in 2008 while in Italy their total inmate population as of 1997 forward was at 55,136 and counting but the comparison of numbers to each other is very different. Many argue that this is due largely to our freedom and laws that govern our land and the allowance for the right to bear arms in the United States. Italy is a country of great reform and is always changing their laws this might also have an effect of how many inmates also make it in to prison. While American prisons are overrun much more then Italyââ¬â¢s are this forces us to privatize our correctional institutions to save space and maybe some money but mainly space. Since Italyââ¬â¢s inmate population is relatively low compared to ours but they do face overcrowding due to the limit of prisons they have built they do not tend to privatize the inmates out. Italyââ¬â¢s security levels are also similar to ours in they will segregate inmates that are more violent and volatile than others. The first level which is their high security is designed to hold inmates that have been convicted of a crime involving the Mafia, kidnapping, extortion or drug trafficking. First level prisoners will be assigned to prisons out of their areas that they live they are also not allowed out of their living areas which means anything that they do as far as programming, school, talking, walking etc. The second level which is their medium security and makes up most of their inmate population have all the schooling and programming that is available. The third level or minimum security is the lowest level and are allowed to have little supervision and placed in the least restrictive areas there are. American prisons are generally the same as we have the same levels our inmates are categorized with other levels within these levels that will determine what type of perks they are allowed while locked up. Prison life in both countries probably only differs little due to the prison that you are locked up in to the people that make the laws. For everything else how you have to watch your back and the groups that inmates will place themselves with for protection this does not change just from country to country you will see remains the same. Italy has three types of release that is comparable to Americaââ¬â¢s parole they are conditional release, amnesty and pardon. Conditional release is the most widely used in the country and is more like American parole then the other two. Inmates can be granted this if they have served at least 30 months or at least half of their sentence. They must have been good inmates while they were incarcerated and also they must believe that the inmate will be successful if released. They still must report to someone and get a job and have a place to live which is the same for American inmates on parole. Amnesty can be granted before or after the sentence and it basically commutes the sentence this was very unpopular and not used very much and since 1992 no amnesties have been granted. Pardons are the same in Italy as they are in America and can be granted by a governor or president. Article 111 of the Italian Constitution which was amended in 1999 will allow the defendant the right to question the accused and all parties to be cross examined. As where before a person could be convicted based on statements made during the preliminary phase of a trial. This allows inmates before sentenced or found guilty of a crime the right to face their accuser and question them as to why they are accusing them of committing a crime. The comparison of the two correctional systems you can see a lot of similarities and then there are vague differences. In my opinion I would take the American correctional system over the Italian one. This is due to the reading I have done and the way the Italian courts and correctional system are set up.
